ALASKA

Let me tell you about Alaska. My parents and brother Chase flew to Seattle where we met up with my other brother Connor at the airport. We spent the night at the beautiful Edgewater Hotel and had the day to explore a little bit of Seattle. I was there when I was nine for a wedding. I have some weird dreams about Seattle because I ruptured my spleen there. haha. I fell off a cliff with my bike! So the memories came back of Pike Place and the weather. It seems like the only thing I ever remember about a place is the weather. So the whole family was together and that part was lovely.  My brother Connor told us that he turned completely vegan so it was so funny watching him find something to order. Eventually, as the trip went on he switched back to eating meat. He went at it on the day the cruise had pork!! The hotel room was big but I still had to sleep next to my brother.  I think he hated it more than me. I went to bed at like 8pm in Seattle but my brother's both went out and my mom and I slept. The next morning we got on our cruise! We took the Norwegian Cruise Line and got two rooms. My parents got a room with a balcony and my brothers and I shared a room that didn't have one. We spent a lot of time on the balcony.  The best part of the cruise was the unlimited drinking package we got for free. 4 out of 5 family members were allowed to drink as much alcohol without exceeding $450 dollars at the end of the week. That's nuts because none of us drink that much so we were Gucci the whole trip. So to pass the time on the cruise while you're going from port to port, you basically swam in the pool, played in the arcade, looked outside at the glaciers, or read about the cities we were heading towards. Ketchikan was beautiful, we did a little walking and sightseeing but it was so small that you can do the city in a few hours. There was about 1.5 days between each port so the next stop was Juneau. Unfortunately, I was so sick that I couldn't get off the ship. So I just had to hear about how small Juneau was. Skagway was another small Alaskan town with lots of salmon and fur.  Chase and I ditched my family so we could go hiking. I think Chase will forever be my favorite travel partner.
There was always something to do on the ship, but most of the time you didn't really want to do anything except be with your family. That statement is true for me but not for this other passenger on the other ship behind us. This story is crazy but a man on the ship behind us actually murdered his wife! They were going to the same exact ports as us (Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway and Victoria, B.C). The story goes that they have these themed nights on the Norwegian Cruise Line and one of the nights was "murder" theme. I can't believe this but he actually killed his wife. We found this out because once we got to Juneau the other passengers had found out about it and next thing you know, its on the news.
One morning, I woke up early and went out on the deck and saw two baby Orca whales. I waited and waited to see them again or something else really cool but nothing came back around. I meditated and felt relaxed after that sighting. Those two orcas were the best part of my trip. Falling in love on cruises is inevitable. It's impossible not to when your mind thinks "what if this ship never makes it" "what if we have to survive on this ship" ...  so you fall in love with strangers and never see them again. It happened to me, it happened to Chase but it didn't happen to Connor. Connor is more guarded and the person that is admired, he doesn't admire other people. I remember walking down the street in Seattle and these girls smiled at him and started laughing so I asked Connor "what do you think about when you walk down the street" and he said back "how fucking dumb everyone is."   Connor was an idiot to me on the trip because he broke my mom's camera that I brought along. And because it was in my possession, we split the cost. Oh my god, dry rice from the buffet, sneaky hand offs, a water drenched camera and $300 later, it was a mess!
In Victoria, we got off the ship and met up with our family there. I have an Aunt and Uncle and a cousin named Justin who is about 28 and he has twins, a boy named Venture and a girl named Bijou. It was great to see where they lived and it was just a few blocks from our port. We drank at their house and had a little party. We left a few hours later to walk around the city and I bought these two butterflies that were dead and put in a frame.
So that was my trip to Alaska.
