Paris !

Paris is a city of many strengths. For being there only a few days, it is easily recognizable to an outsider that the Parisienne way of life is unlike any other. The summer days were hot while I was there, reaching up to 100 degrees but we cooled off with fresh, cold, lemon water from a street vender. Yes, everything is ridiculously expensive  and American money is worthless in the city but I treated myself and my brother to a nicer hotel in Amsterdam because the air bnb in Paris didn't have air conditioning. The sickest part of Paris was the catacombs. The catacombs are underground ossuaries which hold the remains of over 6 million people. The underground pathways and tunnels were found in the 18th century when the city faced some problems in the infrastructure. I can't imagine going to fix a broken pipe and finding millions of skulls and femurs. The best night in Paris was on the 21st when the entire city was engulfed with music. Everyone was vibing to the music performed on the streets. There was every kind of music from classic Parisienne accordions to techno, electronic and rock. The festival was called Fete de la Musique or Music Day. I crave the Parisienne way of life and how they seem to take in the beauty that's around them and reflect it inwards onto themselves. They have these amazing cultural norms that they probably take for granted and I wish us Americans can steal. The fact that there is this polarization of old and new in the city is just extraordinary. Europe is nuts, I wish I could have had a longer stay in Paris. While being there, I saw the 1975 play at one of the concert halls there. I had a great view, by myself, had a beer and just sort of vibe by myself.  I felt like I was winning at fucking life. After the concert ended, I took a taxi back to a cafe where they filmed that movie, "Amelie" and met mom and chase there. UGH! (1975 reference) hehe
